Autumn Soliloquy
Autumn Soliloquy / 19 October 2016
You set the season into motion Make the leaves to fall away To remind us that the temporal and The visible cannot, will not, stay You make nighttime come quicker Tilt the earth away from the sun To show that without the Light Our earthly dreams come undone You blow gusts of chilly wind To rustle and rip away delicate leaves To remind us that our frail dependency Is greater than we first perceived But also there is steadfast hope: You slowly strip the branches bare To show that when everything is gone The roots, the trunk--You--are still there You paint scarlets, yellows, ambers-- Brilliant hues of color in the trees To show us that our seasons' endings Are also beautiful as they bring us to our knees You imagined the wonder, the beauty, The marvelous splendor of fall As a reminder that surrender to change Brings the greatest joy and peace of all. --Alisa Ligman © Alisa Ligman.
