How We Chose Our Ministry Name
God becomes more precious and real in my heart through the writings of Charles Spurgeon. He is one of my favorite authors and, since I was a teenager, my personal devotional times have included reading his messages, and often updating the ones that touch me the most into comfortable everyday language. When it came time to choose a name for the ministry, this devotional, and the beautiful picture it creates, came to my mind as perfectly expressing the experience of God we pray to share. - Kelly Mowrer

“Isaac dwelt by the well Lahai-roi.” Genesis 25:11
Hagar had once been delivered at this well, and Ishmael drank the water so graciously revealed there by the Living God who sees everyone. But Hagar and Ishmael only stopped briefly for a temporary visit, much like a casual Christian who cries out to God when they need help or when it best serves their interest. The kind who call to Him in hard times, then forget Him when things are going great and life is easy.
But Isaac lived there; he made the well of the living and all-seeing God his constant source of supply.
The focus of our life, the dwelling of our soul, is the true test of our course, and character, and condition. Perhaps Hagar's experience with God gave Isaac special respect for this place; maybe the beautiful name made it appealing to him; he often came there to walk and meditate as the day was ending and night falling; he had met his beloved wife, Rebecca, there and so his heart felt connected and at home in this area; but best of all, he enjoyed real communion with the living God here, and he chose this sacred ground for his home.
Let us learn to live in the presence of the living God; let us pray that this day, and every day, we may feel, “You, God, see me.” May the Lord Jehovah be like a deep well to us, delightful, comforting, never failing, springing up to eternal life. The bottle of human resources cracks and dries up, but the well of the Creator never fails; the one who lives at the well lives supremely satisfied, with abundant and constant supplies right at hand.
The Lord has been a sure helper: His name is Shaddai, God All-sufficient; our hearts have often felt the beauty and peace of communion with Him; through Him our soul has found everything we long for and more than we could ever envision, the Lord Jesus Himself; and in Him this day we live, and move, and have our being.
Glorious Lord, may we grow in connection to You. Please draw our wandering hearts to never leave You, and may we forever live at the well of the Living God.
