What Makes Us Holy Makes Us Happy
By Kelly Mowrer
What makes us holy makes us happy.
God is a God of generous delight, not stingy denial.
God gives a cup overflowing, not a sip that never satisfies.
God becomes a fountain of life springing up within us, not a cracked cistern that holds no water.
God is an inexhaustible Source, not an exhausting master.
God energizes, not enervates.
God renews strength, not drains resources.
His Spirit is the cool breeze that refreshes us while we are being warmed in the light of His love, not empty dust in the wind as we trudge through a hot desert.
By grafting us as branches into His vine we become eternally connected to our Source. Everything we need is ours, and more besides.
When we trust Him with our desires, He not only fulfills all that will not harm us, He also lavishes us with more joy than we could even imagine. There are things we may long for and pray for because we can’t see how ultimately they would bring us pain; but in His loving care, He replaces them with perfect provision of everything lovely and delightful; He brings us, by faith, to sit at His right hand where there are pleasures forevermore and where we will be genuinely satisfied, comforted, amazed, and delighted.
I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. Jeremiah 29:11 (GNB)
I will bless you with a future filled with hope--a future of success, not of suffering.
– Jeremiah 29:11 (CEV)
