Proverbs 4:23 Amplified
This devotion was written by Gretchen Ordelheide, a member of our Ministry Prayer Team.
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23 (New International Version)
At the top of the list - the most important of all priorities - protect your heart against the overt and subtle craftiness of the Enemy, for we are in a spiritual battle. The Enemy is at war with God and His princes/princesses. The Enemy would like nothing more than to destroy God’s children, knowing they are so precious to God.
So, put hedges around your heart, hemming it in on all sides with God’s love, joy, peace and mighty strength. Pay particular attention to your heart - even the seemingly little things matter - for it is the source from which our attitudes, philosophies about ourselves and others and our behaviors come.
The heart has great power over the body. As the heart thinks, so we are. The lies we believe about ourselves impact us at our cores, and are reflected in our demeanors and behaviors. So, keep your eyes focused on God, believing the truth of how precious we are to Him and how much He loves us. Then, when the Enemy comes, we’ll be so secure in who we are, and Who’s we are, that we won’t be outwitted by his evil attempts to distract us and take away our hope and peace. Our hearts are secure and protected in God! Hang-on to God!
