Favorite Quotes About Joy, Praise, and Happiness

Happiness is to have enough for the day's needs with always some to spare for those who have not.
It is to possess the love of friends and to have the knowledge that all is well with them.
It is to live in peace with all men.
Happiness is to have the strength to face with courage all that the day may bring.
It is to cherish the gift of laughter, to be quick to note all that is lovely and of good report.
Happiness is to find our joy in the common things of life for so will youth abide in our hearts till the end of our days.
Thank God for the gift of happiness.
-Eric Liddell (Olympic hero whose story is told in the Oscar-winning film Chariots of Fire)

We must praise Your goodness that You have left nothing undone to draw us to Yourself. But one thing we ask of You, our God, not to cease to work in our improvement. Let us tend towards You, no matter by what means, and be fruitful in good works, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. -Ludwig von Beethoven

I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year ‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.’ And he replied, ‘Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than light, and safer than a known way.’ -M.L. Haskins

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits…-Psalm 103:2

Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do
If with His love He befriend thee.
-Joachim Neander

 The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation; This is my God, and I will praise Him; my father's God, and I will extol Him ... -Exodus 15:2

Therefore I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the nations, and I will sing praises to Your name. -2 Sam 22:50

Give praise to the Lord, proclaim His name;
make known among the nations what He has done.

Sing to Him, sing praise to Him;
tell of all His wonderful acts.
Glory in His holy name;

let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Look to the Lord and His strength;
seek His face always. -1 Chronicles 16:8-11

With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord:
“He is good; his love toward Israel endures forever.”
And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord…
-Ezra 3:11

Let all things their Creator bless,
and worship Him in humbleness,
O praise Him! Alleluia!
-Francis of Assisi

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
- Ephesians 1:3

Praise Him for His grace and favor
To our fathers in distress;
Praise Him, still the same forever,
Slow to chide and swift to bless;
Tenderly He shields and spares us;
Well our feeble frame He knows;
In His hands He gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes
Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia,
Widely as His mercy flows.
-Henry Francis Lyte

 I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness;
 I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High. -Psalm 7:17

Joy is the serious business of Heaven. - C. S. Lewis

I will bless the Lord at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make its boast in the Lord;
The humble shall hear of it and be glad.
Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt His name together.
-Psalm 34:1-3

Begin to rejoice in the Lord, and your bones will flourish like an herb, and your cheeks will glow with the bloom of health and freshness. Worry, fear, distrust, care-all are poisonous! Joy is balm and healing, and if you will but rejoice, God will give power. –A.B. Simpson

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield. - Psalm 5:11-12

What I am anxious to see in Christian believers is a beautiful paradox. I want to see in them the joy of finding God while at the same time they are blessedly pursuing Him. I want to see in them the great joy of having God yet always wanting Him. –A.W. Tozer

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
His love endures forever.
Cry out, “Save us, God our Savior;
gather us and deliver us from the nations,
that we may give thanks to Your holy name,
and glory in Your praise.”
Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.

Then all the people said “Amen” and “Praise the Lord.”  -1 Chronicles 16:34-36

 … Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

- Isaiah 12:6

To be in Christ is the source of the Christian's life; to be like Christ is the sum of His excellence; to be with Christ is the fullness of His joy.

–Charles Hodge

Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. -1 Peter 1:8-9

A changeable God would be a terror to the righteous, they would have no sure anchorage, and amid a changing world they would be driven to and fro in perpetual fear of shipwreck. ...Our heart leaps for joy as we bow before One who has never broken His word or changed His purpose. –Charles Spurgeon

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. -1 Peter 2:9

 Joy is love exalted; peace is love in repose; long-suffering is love enduring; gentleness is love in society; goodness is love in action; faith is love on the battlefield; meekness is love in school; and temperance is love in training. -D.L.Moody

Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
I cling to you;
your right hand upholds me.  -Psalm 63:4-8

How divinely full of glory and pleasure shall that hour be when all the millions of mankind that have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb of God shall meet together and stand around Him, with every tongue and every heart full of joy and praise! How astonishing will be the glory and the joy of that day when all the saints shall join together in one common song of gratitude and love, and of everlasting thankfulness to this Redeemer! With that unknown delight, and inexpressible satisfaction, shall all that are saved from the ruins of sin and hell address the Lamb that was slain, and rejoice in His presence! –Isaac Watts

I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all Your wonderful deeds.

I will sing the praises of Your name, O Most High.
-Psalm 9:1, 2

Thou art giving and forgiving,
Ever blessing, ever blest,
Wellspring of the joy of living,
Ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our Brother,
All who live in love are Thine;
Teach us how to love each other,
Lift us to the joy divine.
-Henry J. van Dyke
